Skirting Around the Sins of Selling

Squamish Women Networking

I had the pleasure of meeting a great group of women entrepreneurs in Squamish, hosted by Lisa Princic of Change Makers Toolbox.  We spent the evening discussing common mistakes women make when it comes to Selling.  Here is an article covering the event by the Squamish Chief.

Felicia is now an Instructor and Business Advisor for Langara College

Business GrowthI’m pleased to announce that I’ll be joining Langara College’s Self Employment Program as an Instructor and Business Advisor.  A few of my clients are successful graduates of this program, and I have been conducting some workshops there for recent graduates.  So, when Kofi Ohene-Asante, the Program Manager, suggested that I join their team, it seemed like a natural fit.  I love the staff there, and am excited to be now working with aspiring entrepreneurs right from the start of their journey to become successful business owners.

The Langara SE program provides 48 weeks of income support for entrepreneurs while they are building their business plans and launching their businesses. More details on the program can be found on the Self Employment website.

Fall seems like a good time for growth.  In addition to my new role in Langara and my growing business coaching practice,  I’m also eager to kick off our next series of Vancouver Enterprising Moms Network sessions.  We have a great list of speakers lined up for the fall, and I’m in the process of finalizing details for our Richmond Chapter launch in November of this year.  If you are a mom entrepreneur or mom-entrepreneur-to-be in Richmond, or know of one, please e-mail me at felicia@candeo.ca so I can include you in my launch email list!

As I reflect on this amazing journey so far, I am thankful for all the support I’ve received from you – my family and friends, my business mentors and coaches, my amazing clients, and my supportive network of entrepreneurs and supporters.  I look forward to working with you on building and growing businesses in the months and years to come!

Financial Literacy for Mom Entrepreneurs

A common theme I see in working with many mom entrepreneurs is that many of us aren’t all that literate when it comes to the financial side of our business.  Sure, we know how much sales we make or want to make.  But when the conversation goes beyond the top line -  say on topics in figuring out how we should be paying ourselves, or optimizing tax structure, or even knowing how to interpret financial statements, I see a lot of blank looks.

To be honest, the information is out there.  We can talk to our accountants.  We can read books.  But we don’t.  Partly because we don’t even know what questions to ask our accountants, and partly because we are so very time crunched.

Which is why I’m so thrilled to be partnering with the Financial Literacy Counsel, an organization providing financial education and counseling services, to offer a quick afternoon workshop on demystifying the financial side of things.

Date: June 21st 1-4pm

Location: 300 – 1111 W. Hastings St, Vancouver, BC V6E 2J3

Price: promotional introductory price $79 (regular $129 value)

Here is what you can expect to learn:

    • Learn tips and the proper way to read a balance sheet

Introducing the Make It Business Bookclub for Entrepreneurs

I love the idea.  A great business book, a cup of coffee, and 12 entrepreneurs sitting down to discuss what they’ve learned and how they are applying concepts from a top-selling business book.  This is the Make It Business Book Club.  This is way better than just your average networking event.  In a mere 90 minutes meeting, you learn so much from every participant.  Each brings thoughts and insights, challenges and solutions from their businesses, and you get to know each other on a level that you wouldn’t normally do at a regular networking event.

I invite you to join us in an upcoming meeting.  I will be facilitating one on April 14, and we are discussing Guerilla Marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson.  I’m a big fan of Guerilla Marketing, and can’t wait to hear how others are using strategies from this book in their business.  Come share and learn with us!
